The Serpent (Things Like This Part 4)

This article is about my new song, Things Like This, which is available on Spotify now.

In my previous post (Part 3) I left off explaining the command God gave Adam and Eve about a "certain tree" they needed to stay away from in the Garden of Eden.

Genesis 2:17

16And the LORD God commanded him, “You may eat freely from every tree of the garden, 17but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil; for in the day that you eat of it, you will surely die.”

This was clearly a test of their devotion.

How much did Adam and Eve love their Creator?

How amazed were they by Him?

Were they going to obey Him at all cost?

I'm sure they were pretty much taken by God (as any one would be) and tried their best to obey (as any human would)

but...

their was a creature lurking! And he was super clever.

Genesis 3:1

Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman,

“Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”

Who knows how long it was before the woman and the serpent were face to face?

Maybe she started looking at the tree from a distance. Then weeks passed until she decided to take a few steps towards it.

Did boredom cause it? Greed? A lack of love towards God? Lack of wisdom? Ungratefulness?

Or was the Serpent luring her to take baby steps through silent temptations?

Maybe it was all of the above.

Or perhaps, she innocently stumbled upon it without noticing.

Whatever it was Eve took the first STEP.

And when she did, the serpent was right there hiding in the tree - waiting for an opportunity to do one thing...turn Adam and Eve away from God and turn them to himself, like he turned some of the Angels in heaven to war against God..

And he was going to do this through steps.

Eve was already at the forbiden location which was step one. Now she needed to open her intellect, TO LISTEN and respond. And not just ignore him.

Gen3:1

“Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”

'Wait!' Eve thought.

'This is horrifying...a SNAKE is on the very tree God warned me about and is speaking to me -  like an intelligent human being- so I'm going to run from this situation...run, to somewhere safe.' Eve thought to herself.

But did she?

She couldn't resist the his QUESTION..

This was something she needed to correct.

'Obviously, the serpent was mistaken and was not aware of how generous God really was. He needed to know.' Eve thought.

But the enemy wasn't ignorant he knew exactly what God said! So why was he there in the first place?

It was a hook.

A question with a child like tone, sounding innocent and with an enticing underlining juicy gossip to it..

ABOUT SOMEONE

And Eve bought it...she responded. Her free will drove her to give parts of herself to a talking snake.

Gen 3:2

The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,

but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”

At this point, He must have transformed himself into the wildest most extraordinary looking thing she ever gazed upon.

And with the little that she gave him...

In her eyes...there in the midst of the leaves, he was a symbol of great wisdom, understanding the darkest of all secrets and aware of the deepest depths of ancient mysteries. Knowing all things and comprehending all knowledge.

But he really wasn't.

He knew things indeed, but not all things.

The Devil didn't know what was about to take place after Adam and Eve ate the fruit. He knew they were going to die because of what God said but he didn't KNOW Gods plan!

So he continued to step three...DECEIVE!

“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman.

"For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."

She believed he LIE which was Eves third mistake!

The serpents plan was working but the final step was for her to take ACTION now.

When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate it.

And just like that it was over!

Death had begun - and everything that came with it was now in their genetics and the entire earth paid the price for her mistake as well...for the fall.

Genesis 3:8

8Then the man and his wife heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the breezeb of the day, and they hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.

9But the LORD God called out to the man, “Where are you?”

10“I heard Your voice in the garden,” he replied, “and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid myself.”

11“Who told you that you were naked?” asked the LORD God. “Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?”

12And the man answered, “The woman whom You gave me, she gave me fruit from the tree, and I ate it.”

13Then the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?”

“The serpent deceived me,” she replied, “and I ate.”

14So the LORD God said to the serpent:

“Because you have done this,

cursed are you above all livestock

and every beast of the field!

On your belly will you go,

and dust you will eat,

all the days of your life.

15And I will put enmity between you and the woman,

and between your seed and her seed.

He will crush your head,

and you will strike his heel.c

16To the woman He said:

“I will sharply increase your pain in childbirth;

in pain you will bring forth children.

Your desire will be for your husband,d

and he will rule over you.”

17And to Adam He said:

“Because you have listened to the voice of your wife

and have eaten from the tree

of which I commanded you not to eat,

cursed is the ground because of you;

through toil you will eat of it

all the days of your life.

18Both thorns and thistles it will yield for you,

and you will eat the plants of the field.

19By the sweat of your brow

you will eat your bread,

until you return to the ground—

because out of it were you taken.

For dust you are,

and to dust you shall return.”

This was by far the worst day in human history. The verdict was read and  it was absolutely unbearable. This did not end well!

Why exactly did the Devil do such a thing to these two? And who was he exactly? And although from my previous post in part three, I mentioned, it was jealousy that made him fall but what really happened up there?

What were his main duties? What kind of title did he own? And why was he so clever and persuasive, causing the FALL of the entire world?

I will continue this on my next blog and explain more about this and how crucial it is to become born again as well as give you more updates on my new song, Things Like This, (which is available on spotify now) and is also what this whole song is about.

Until then, thank you for visiting my site and please subscribe through our email list to be the first one to get updates on my upcoming music .

Many blessings,
